My journey - health and lifestyle

Hi I’m Alex
I love Yoga for its holistic approach to wellbeing and its ability to help us transform body and mind.
My own yoga journey started in 2015 when I went along to my very first yoga class. At the time I was working in a very stressful corporate job in London and I guess I was looking for something to not only help keep my body in good shape, but to give me a chance to relax and unwind after a busy day. I remember feeling nervous and not really knowing what to expect, but I left the class feeling lighter, calmer and with a happy excitement for the next class. That was it, I was hooked!
Before I found yoga I’d attended physical exercise classes and always enjoyed maintaining my fitness, but yoga opened up a whole new way of developing a healthy lifestyle. As my yoga practice developed I fell in love with not only the physical practice of the Asanas (yoga postures) but the invitation to work with the breath and the mind too. Yoga’s holistic approach to wellbeing is what sets it apart from other forms of exercise, and the mental wellbeing and resilience it continues to teach me is invaluable. It’s this combination of mind and body practices which can help to reduce stress, relieve the feelings of anxiety and improve mood.
Contrary to what most people think, you don’t have to be flexible to come to a yoga class! But yoga will improve your flexibility if you practice regularly - even by attending a class once a week you will see a difference. When I first started practicing yoga just sitting comfortably on the floor was a challenge! Over time and with consistent practice your body will become stronger and more flexible.
Yoga is a ‘work-in’ not just a workout, it works with the mind and soul too, and I soon found the breathing, relaxation and meditative practices of yoga all hugely beneficial in developing a peaceful mind in amidst of the business of modern life!
My passion for yoga developed over the next 4 years until in 2018 I decided to take the leap and undertake my 200hr Yoga Teacher Training with Yoga Ananda. I now love to share the teachings of Yoga with my students, with the intention to help you increase your strength and flexibility of both body and mind, and find more moments of peace and wellbeing in your life.
Classic & Yin Yoga
I am trained in Classic (Sivananda) yoga and have many years experience in the Vinyasa (flowing) style of yoga too, both of which I incorporate into my regular yoga classes.
My yoga classes include classic postures, breathing exercises and relaxation techniques. Suitable for all levels, it is a great way to relax, de-stress and focus your mind, while also improving your strength and flexibility.
In 2020 I also trained as a Yin yoga teacher and offer monthly Yin yoga reset classes online via Zoom.Yin is a wonderful, slow paced practice, where the focus is on release and letting go. Unlike most other forms of yoga which build strength and engage the muscles, in Yin you hold the poses for longer supported by the ground, pillows and other props, to help the muscles relax. Great for developing flexibility in the body, the slower pace to the practice can also provide an opportunity for deeper connection and stillness.
